The Margit – or Margaret – bridge is named after a 13 century Princess by the same name. I will get to her story a bit later on in this footprint. Her bridge is one of the most interesting in the whole city. It is bent at the middle to allow passage down onto the Island from both sides and features an incredible view of some of the most famous sights in all of Budapest. Scattered across this crossing are crowns with bent crosses spread all along the barricades of the bridge. The story goes that the coronation crown of Hungary remained lost for a long time and when it was finally found the cross atop the crown was bent.
