This is a hidden little gem in the heart of Piraeus that has grown to become one of my favourite spots for spending time with friends. It is located in what used to be a motel, back in 1897, when the arcade acted as a place for travellers to rest their horses with wheelbarrows, whilst they enjoyed some food and a good night’s sleep. Since then, it turned into a shopping center, with many little handy-shops, food stores, breweries and cafes thriving here, until, in 1998 what is known as «Stoa Rakadiko» rented the whole arcade and renovated it fully. It still maintains the traditional character of the spot, only now its the perfect «rakadiko». Rakadiko, in Greek means a place that serves raki, a very powerful, sweetened, Turkish drink that is very popular amongst Greeks as well. It has an alcohol concentration of about 50%, so watch out! The food is surprisingly delicious, you won’t regret it!
