The House of Terror is a cerebral, educationally stimulating, and poignant location, in the midst of Andrássy avenue. As the name suggests this multi-leveled museum is filled with distressing information and exhibitions. Hungarian communism was known as ‘Goulash Communism’ for its supposedly softer economic policies and less rigid institutions. But it would be a misnomer to insinuate that Hungarian communism was soft in any way. This eye-opening museum takes you through the horrendous atrocities committed by the communist regime in Hungary. Be prepared to wait on line, particularly if you come here during the middle of summer. It’s 100 percent worth it. Take your time in the House of Terror, there are three different floors and each of them has an essay’s worth of information plastered on the walls.
