Empress Elizabeth, the shadowy and beautiful wife of Emperor Franz Josef who was adored by the Hungarian people. Sisi, as she was known, took the unconventional step of actually learning the Hungarian language. For this, she became a beloved figure and it’s no surprise that this amazing lookout was named after her. The Elizabeth Lookout is located atop the peak of John’s Mountain, the highest point in all of Budapest. To get to the base of the Lord of the Ring’s looking tower, follow the signs and finally head up the rubberized yellow track. Along the way, you will pass the Zugliget chairlift which can be used as an alternative way to get up or down. Climb to the top and soak in the unbelievable view. This is the only place you can see the extent of the urban sprawl and fully visualize the two-sided Buda and Pest. It’s remarkable.
