El Peix

Apparently, back in the 18th Century, this area was boggy marshland and epicentre of Barcelona’s fishing trade. However, for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, it was transformed with the creation of the iconic Passeig marítim de la Barceloneta. They also erected a bunch of commemorative sculptures and this is one of them. It’s known as El Peix or, Frank Gehry’s fish, an ode to the Canadian architect who designed it. What makes this sculpture unique is the fact that also changes colour, this is due to the bronze finish reflecting the sun. As a result, it’s especially beautiful at sunset, where the sculpture has an amazing orange glow to it.
