El Cap de Barcelona

This modern sculpture was erected during the regeneration of the seafront for the 1992 Olympics. Standing at 54 feet and scaling in at a whopping 90 tonnes, this striking sculpture is the work of American artist Roy Lichtenstein. If you blended the pop art Lichtenstein style with some Gaudi and Piccaso, this sculpture is what you’d get. Part of a series of paintings known as brush strokes, this statue is made up of concrete delicately adorned with colourful tiles, giving it that Gaudiesque vibe. Although it’s known as Barcelona’s head, looks closer and you can actually see that there is more than one. The red lips and long eyelashes of the main face match the aesthetics of women. The second face is much smaller, made up black yellow eyes and mouth, and is found directly above the nose. A truly unique sculpture.
