For many years Szentendre had a significant Serb population. This dates back to the late 17th century when inhabitants of the Balkan peninsula began to flee from the Ottomans. It was here that they settled and the rich legacy of the Serbs can be seen in their beautiful churches throughout this part of Szentendre. Here is the best of the lot. Take a stroll around the lovely courtyard and walk into the church for a bit of a gander. Look out for the stone carved skull! There is also the nearby Serbian Orthodox Ecclesiastic Art Collection which is an interesting place to pop into if you are interested if we have an iconography aficionados in the audience today.
